Iron Sky

Sometimes I wonder about the swastika - a perfectly good solar symbol that became utterly demonized after “you know who” made it his logo. One wonders how long it will take for the symbol to be rehabilitated. In a bizarre twist of fate, some are now calling the Star of David the new swastika.

The new Iron Sky trailer reminded me of the movie 'Contact', and how the aliens in Vega received the first TV transmission from Earth, which just happened to be the opening ceremony from the Berlin Games - the 1936 Olympics. If they had come in person, instead of just sending stargate plans, I wonder if they would have all worn Nazi uniforms and swastikas, you know... just to make us more comfortable. Maybe even their starships would have giant swastika solar symbols painted on them, showing very clearly (they would suppose) that they come in peace!

The Berlin Gates

Which makes our little, deliberately polarizing, 2012 London Olympic mascots even more intriguing, considering their favorite gesture is a “sieg heil”. Gay Nazi One-Eyed Aliens. Major Tom?

Wish I knew more about how the swastika came to be the Nazi symbol. I'm sure you know its use in some Native American cultures. Yes, it needs a serious rehabilitation, but unfortunately, people seem unable to let the Nazi fetish go....

which reminds me--had a friend in school who was obsessed with Hitler and Nazi stuff. Every paper or project he did had something to do with that era. Finally, one of the teachers insisted he pick another topic. I've lost touch with him but I often wonder how he turned out.

I suspect the Nazis got a hold of it through Nordic pagan tradition, "Thule", etc. You're right about the Nazi fetish. We still find the dark side very sexy. Funny synch with writing this post, because as it was "germanating" in my head, a big, twin engine, WWII era airplane thundered overhead. Air raid!!

n professor of music theory at New York state's Colgate University, Dr. Joscelyn Godwin's 1992 release, Arktos: The Polar Myth in Science, Symbolism, and Nazi Survival, he attributes the significance of the swastika to the namesake of his book, Arktos, the north star, by which sea-faring civilizations have long charted their oceanic sojourns. Highly intriguing, ay Michael? Then, of course, you have all of the other stuff piled on that … the Nazi preoccupation with finding, and interbreeding with, the mythical (which is not to imply nonexistent) Hollow Earth race to thus create their legendary Aryan master race. Wasn't their top secret Thule Gesellschaft all about that? Man, your trailer for the Iron Sky sci-fi/comedy-suspense thriller film, still under production, is just nutty, considering that recently I flew through the open window of this site preoccupied with the alleged Nazi race to the moon & back with their own fleet of saucers. I swear, all these chthonic undercurrents in the sleeping mass unconscious mind, finally percolating into the mainstream. The lines between Pop Culture & reality have finally blurred, even laying blame between "our" gubmint & offworld forces in collusion with one another. the previous link somehow led me to another one, a tribute site to one particularly vocal abductee's neutralization. Twas ever thus, wasn't it? Scarily enough, few notice & even fewer even care. Thanks again for your prescient attention-getting blogticles, Michael. Best wishes to you & Var from Apple Mountain ~ (•8-D

Wow Prof Effro, Those are awesome links! I just read the one about the Thule society and how Cabalistic AND Tantric lore held that it was a spinning icon, and the Nazi flag used it spinning in a counter-clockwise direction to evoke chthonic, chaotic forces! And where do we find spinning? Why, the Contact Device, of course, which ties it right back to the Nazis, again!

Hmmm. Makes me wonder if four blade propellors were especially popular in the Luftwaffe.

As luck would have it, here is a recent post about the Focke Wulf Ta 152 Towards Perfection? with a 4 blade prop.

The swastika was also stolen from Buddhism and Hinduism.
