Cinco de Beltane

In the comments to Mayday!, Christopher Knowles reports that on or about May 5 is Old Beltane - the “astrologically correct” May Day.

The old Celtic name for May Day is Beltane (in its most popular Anglicized form), which is derived from the Irish Gaelic 'Bealtaine' or the Scottish Gaelic 'Bealtuinn', meaning 'Bel-fire', the fire of the Celtic god of light (Bel, Beli or Belinus). He, in turn, may be traced to the Middle Eastern god Baal. --Mike Nichols

Cinco de Mayo is a minor regional Mexican holiday turned into another major U.S. beer marketing bash (on par with Oktoberfest and St. Patrick’s day), that synchromystically happens to land on a day celebrating a solar deity.

And people say there will be no choices in the NWO.

Interesyncing events on May Five:

  • 1260 - Kublai Khan becomes ruler of the Mongol Empire.
  • 1640 - King Charles I of England disbands the Short Parliament.
  • 1949 - The Council of Europe in Strasbourg is founded through the Treaty of London as the first European institution working for European integration.
  • 1961 - Mercury program: Mercury-Redstone 3 – Alan Shepard becomes the first American to travel into space, making a sub-orbital flight of 15 minutes.
  • 1964 - 5 May is declared Europe Day on the 25th anniversary of the Council of Europe.
  • 1980 - Operation Nimrod: The Special Air Service storm the Iranian embassy in London after a six day siege.
  • 2005 - The United Kingdom general election takes place, in which Tony Blair's Labour Party is re-elected for a third, consecutive term.

We've revived the ancient festival calendar and Cinco De Mayo is the politically-correct Beltane (May Day is too obvious). Next up- reviving the St John's Fires on June 24. Anyone care to speculate what the pretext will be then? Or was it already moved 11 days up to July 4th?

Todd - I was hoping it would land on Sunday in 2012, but nope. ;-)

Thanks for the horse racing sync, Moon. Inspired by the sports spell casting of yourself, Todd and Gavin, I've decided to watch the build up to the 33rd America's Cup yacht race, scheduled for 2009.

I've been checking up on the meaning of "8 bells":

"The term "Eight bells" can also be a way of saying that a sailor's watch is over, for instance, in his or her obituary. It's a nautical euphemism for "finished".

Was the Kentucky Derby ritual killing a cryptic warning? Who's watch is over?

Oddly, I had picked that horse to win with some friends...

You might also want to think about it in terms of "belles" not bells...as in ladies. 8 Women which is a French Film of the whodunit variety.
