A Bustle in my Hedgerow

And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune,
Then the piper will lead us to reason.

Met a guy named Piper on April Fool’s Day. We met in uptown, on the hill. Made a Beatles joke.

We walked by a guy a few days ago, Var nicknamed him “Thor” because of his imposing stature and big blond beard. As we got closer I could hear him chatting to a friend but couldn’t make out the words until I clearly heard him say “six, six, six” and then we walked out of earshot and his voice again became a murmur.

Ooh, it makes me wonder.

Walked down to the bank to deposit a check yesterday - Stairway to Heaven was playing.

Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page is famously connected to Aleister Crowley, old Mr. 666 himself, “The Beast”.

Saw a flyer advertising the Port Townsend High School production of Little Shop of Horrors. Opens May 1.

Little Shop of Horrors, high school drama, Stairway to Heaven and 666 have all been synced and documented before here at Gosporn, back in 2008 when my nephew had a part in his high school production of Little Shop of Horrors where I was given ticket no. 666 and they played Stairway to Heaven while we waited for the play to start. See Little Shop of Miracles, not too shabby IMHO.

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May queen.

Beltane is the gaelic May Day Festival. It is a crop fertility ritual noted for bonfires and ritual sacrificial deaths of “king” figures, for instance, the deaths of Adolph Hitler and Osama Bin Laden on May 1. I didn’t say they were good kings, just “kings”.

Today I met a guy named Cody who races 505 dinghies with Piper. Said he sails the oldest 505 in the fleet, but it still beat the new boats. He said they had to take down the mast in a few days.

Take down the “mast”.
Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know,
The piper's calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

I read Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows a few weeks ago. I was intrigued that Pink Floyd named their debut album after a chapter in the book: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. The chapter's an odd one, where our diminutive animal protagonists have a frankly psychedelic and vaguely homoerotic experience meeting Pan. One wonders if Kenneth enjoyed a bit of the "Halfling's leaf" back in the day, while writing his stories for children.

I am intrigued by piper myths, both Pan and the Pied Piper. The Pied Piper rids the town of Hamlin of a plague of rats, it reminded me of this old gosporn post - The Piper Gets an Advance, where the modern bankers and plutocrats have become the rats in our global village, eating us out of house and home. The climax of The Wind in the Willows is chapter 12, "The Return of Ulysses", where Toad and his compatriots retake Toad Hall from a band of weasels.

Another telling spin on the weasel mythos can be found in the Terry Jones-directed version of Wind in the Willows, a live-action 1996 interpretation which re-conceives Grahame's saga as an environmental parable. Here the weasels are no longer a grasping underclass but rather a league of industrialists, plowing over Mole's field to build vast factories and planning to dynamite Toad's home - a historical landmark - to make way for a new processing plant. The Chief Weasel, sporting a Hitler mustache and flanked by Nazi-like "W" banners, is an evil plutocrat with no regard for the natural landscape, the national legacy, or the modest homes and livelihoods of creatures throughout the River Bank. ~Joel Bocko.

Rat, Mole, Badger and Toad sneak back into Toad Hall via a secret underground passage while the weasels are partying it up in the dining room, eating Toad's food, drinking his wine, and telling crass jokes. It was a banquet for the Chief Weasel's birthday.

The League of Weasels

Yesterday, 4/4/14, was the 65th birthday of NATO. The "Weasel in Chief" would be our 44th president. Var and I were walking by the house with the "Big Orange Sync" yesterday and he spied a condom package on the road, a Trojan. We recall that Ulysses sneaked into Troy by hiding inside the Trojan Horse.

I wonder if the invasion from the Id began yesterday? Not the overt attack, but the sneaking in.

When Good Greens Go Bad - Update

Some say that gods are just a myth, but guess who I’ve been dancing with...

I’ve had a lot of very strong “pied piper” syncs lately. I conflated Hamlin with the “global village”, infested with “rats in high places” who eat all the "grain". Alan from All The Happy Creatures reminded me that the primordial piper is Pan, with his cloven hooves, horns and horny nature. He is the god of shepherds and flocks, of mountain wilds, hunting and rustic music, and the companion of the nymphs. Pan is connected to fertility and the season of spring.

His wonderful image has somehow become associated with the Christian devil, which says a lot about the church’s fundamental opposition to nature, never mind that Jesus himself is one of a very long line of fertility gods, being “born again” every spring. The New Testament begins the tale in Matthew 1:1, by counting back the genealogy of Jesus to make sure that the Messiah is clearly descended from a shepherd, who’s talent with “rustic music” was recorded as the Psalms.

So let’s just call a spade a spade. Jesus was David, who was Pan, who was Osiris, who was Min. Same god, many masks. Our modern name for this primordial force of nature is 'Fuck'. Fuk-U-shima. in J-Pan. With Exposed Rods of Irony. I'm pretty sure modern Jesus would be called an eco-terrorist.

Rabbit holes quickly develop a mind of their own, so while I’m pondering this, Greg at Mythulinity posts an episode from ‘Class of the Titans’ which features a “new KID” at school: a boy who calls himself DJ Panic, who is promoting his fundraiser dance for “The Green Alliance” - an obvious Greenpeace stand in. As it turns out, DJ Panic is actually Pan. The former hippie has gone “postal” and is delivering “payback” for the many crimes against nature. The “garden” goes to hell as plants mutate into giant, man-eating flowers that spit acid like a dragon spits fire. His weapon is his music. Just like the Pied Piper. Call it a Panic Attack.

UPDATE 4/27

With the recent arrival of ‘Class of the Titans’ into my sync hole, I realized this was familiar territory because I did a post about ‘Clash of the Titans’ Back in April, 2009. Starring Harry HAMLIN.

Yesterday I got an email that referenced a Seattle boat designer who’s office is on Hamlin St.

These pipers... they be getting rowdy!

The Piper Gets an Advance

I live on 22nd street so naturally I’m interested in the Fool, in all his many costumes. The Jester, Joker, Parsifal or Fool, is usually portrayed wearing bright multi colors, which is the same meaning as “pied”. The pied piper rids Hamlin from a scourge of rats, but is not paid properly by the villagers, so he takes their children, instead.

Remember back on 3/17 when the “widow of Osiris” offered to help financially with Oliver’s vet bills? Well, she followed through, and she delivered on April 1. I chuckled at the time... saying to myself, “I guess sometimes even the fool gets paid”.

The funny thing is, we have recently discovered rats in the attic. And it occurred to me that “rat” could mean any kind of parasitic character that eats by taking cheese from its host, say for instance... bankers. Hmmm. How to rid the global village of an infestation of bankers? That’s gonna take one hell of a better mouse trap. Either that or a damn good flute.

A fool and his money are soon parted, and well, I’m a good example of that. I just don’t work for money, it’s not the way I’m wired. Or rather, I can be induced to work for money since that’s how I eat, but I don’t much like it. Truth is, I want what money can’t buy.

“He doesn’t want money. He wants what money can’t buy”

I wonder, what ever happened to those children of Hamlin? Maybe they became pipers themselves.
